Family Promise

What is Family Promise?

Family Promise of Lima-Allen County is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to ending family homelessness, providing emergency shelter, meals, case management, and support services to families experiencing homelessness. Their goal is to empower families to rebuild their lives, regain their independence, and achieve lasting success. They work closely with families to address their immediate needs and help them develop a plan to secure safe and stable housing.

Since 2008, they have been providing a safe haven, connecting families to essential resources, and empowering them to find employment and stable housing. Through their faith-based approach, they foster a supportive and compassionate environment where families can
rebuild their lives." We deliver life-saving services: prevention,  shelter, and stabilization to families in need.

Volunteers are the core of the program. They share food, play with children, teach classes and lend their passion and expertise to help families get back on their feet. They  prove that motivated people can solve family homelessness. And, in the process, they truly create “home” – and a community – for families who have no place left to turn.

Family Promise is now in 43 states with 200 programs. It has been in Allen County for 15 years. In 2023 volunteers in Allen County served 13,514 meals to the homeless. 16 Families were able to get a new home; 35 children no longer had to remain homeless.

Gomer Congregational Church has been involved for five years. 2024 will be our sixth.
